Cameroon/Côte d'Ivoire fixture as part of
the quarterfinals of the 25th African Cup of Nations due to take
place on Saturday is fuelling debates in both teams.
Journalists as well as officials from both sides say all eyes are
on the match, which they consider as the "return" match.
Cameroon had beaten Côte d'Ivoire (2-0) and (3-2) in the two
encounters between them during the group qualifying games for
CAN/World Cup 2006.
These defeats are for Ivorians, "an affront" they should sweep
off in order to put an end to the Cameroonian myth and justify
their current reputation of best African team.
"We wish to win the match against Cameroon particularly on a
neutral ground to put ourselves into confidence and put an end to
the Cameroonian myth," Ivorian Koné Arouna commented.
As in the Ivorian camp, the Cameroonian delegation shows the same
optimism and think that Cameroon will easily come over Ivorians
as were the case against Togo and Angola.
"There will be no match on Saturday, "The Elephants" will be
whisked off just as were the other World Cup-bound teams Togo and
Angola. The "Indomitable Lions" are hunters of World Cup-bound
teams," a Cameroonian journalist stressed.
In order to get through to this stage of the tournament, Cameroon
topped the Group B with three victories while Côte d'Ivoire came
second of the Group A with two victories and a defeat.
