Nigerian national coach Augustine Eguavoen has commended his team following its 2-1 victory over Senegal, which enabled the "Super Eagles" to be on top of group D and remain in Port Saïd for its quarterfinals encounter with Tunisia.
"I am pleased to remain in Port Saïd because the public supports us, which gave us a lot of confidence. This support will be very handy in our match against Tunisia in the quarterfinals," Eguavoen told a post-match press conference in Port Said.
"This was a very tough match. This was Senegal's best performance in the competition and I think it deserves it qualification for the quarterfinals."
"We played a great match and dominated the game throughout the 90 minutes but unfortunately we paid dearly due to goalkeeping and defensive errors in the dying minutes," his Senegalese counterpart, Abdoulaye Sarr, told journalists.
"Fortunately we qualified for the quarterfinals since, in the final analysis, this was the objective and we deserved a berth in the quarterfinals," he added.
Nigeria meets Tunisia, while Senegal plays Guinea in the quarterfinals of the 25th Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which ends on 10 February.
