Port Said, Egypt (PANA) - Nigeria's Super Eagles midfielder Nwankwo Kanu is already looking beyond Nigeria's opening 1-0 victory over Ghana, saying he strongly believes that his team will play in the final match come 10 February at the Cairo International Stadium.
Kanu, who came late in the match against Ghana, told PANA after the team's training Wednesday morning in Port Said that the commitment of every member of the team to the tournament was overwhelming.
He said he had watched the other teams play and he did not see them as threats to Nigeria's quest for the CAN 2006 trophy.
"We have some good teams here but I don't see any of them stopping Nigeria because we are tactically better than most of them and the calibre of players we have here cannot be intimidated by some of these big names we have in other teams.
"You know that this is the first time Nigeria is attending the competition with relatively low profile stars because most of our players are drawn from the junior team but have matured quickly to play on a big stage.
"I have a strong feeling that Nigeria will conquer and it is even good that most pundits here are not rating Super Eagles among the teams to win the cup hence we are not under pressure to leave up to that expectation," Kanu, who plays for the England club West Bromwich, said.
He, however, tipped former champions Cameroon, host Egypt and either Cote d' Ivoire or Tunisia to pair with the Super Eagles in the semi-finals.
"I think these countries have shown signs of what it takes to make something out of this tournament. I will tip them as likely contenders to challenge us," he said.
