Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - Egypt's assistant coach, Chawqi Gharieb said the technical crew believes the host country could still advance to the quarter-finals of CAN 2006, despite drawing 0-0 with Morocco in their second Group A match Tuesday.
"We played a big match against a mighty opponent which did not lose any game during the qualification series. The result is very fair. We had several chances but our strikers were unlucky not to score," Gharieb told a post-match press conference here.
He said the team would play to win their next match against Côte d'Ivoire and qualify for the quarter-finals.
Sounding equally upbeat, Moroccan coach, Mohamed Fakhir, described the 0-0 result against Egypt as fair, adding that his boys played against a strong team at home.
He is also hopeful that Morocco will go through to the quarter-finals.
Côte d'Ivoire tops Group A with six points, followed by Egypt (four points), Morocco (one point) and Libya (0 point).
The hosts battle Côte d'Ivoire, while Morocco take on Libya in the final group matches to pick two teams that will advance to the quarter-finals
