Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - Ivorians Saturday took to the streets to celebrate the national football team's hard-earned 1-0 victory over Morocco in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) match played in Cairo, Egypt.
Supporters stormed Abidjan streets, loudly hooting their car and motorcycle horns as they drove up and down the city neighbourhoods in jubilation.
Striker Didier Drogba converted a penalty after being felled in the box to register the tie's lone goal in the 38th minute.
"The most important thing is to grab the three points," Ivorian TV journalist Sébastien Ouégnin said.
"Our boys are yet to find their mark but we must acknowledge their showing. The most important thing for us are the three points we have snatched from the Moroccans," a group of fans at a pub shouted.
Several fans stormed the national radio to loudly express they joy and to congratulate Drogba and his team mates.
"The tie was hard on our players but thank God we have won. We hope things will be better in the next matches," said an Ivorian Football Association official.
Cote d'Ivoire is in Group A with Morocco, Libya and Egypt.
On Friday Egypt sank Libya 3-0 in the opener played.
