Dakar, Senegal(PANA) - Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who led the Africa group in the numbers of goals (11) scored during the 2006 joint World Cup/African Cup of Nations campaigns, has reportedly signed with the English club Arsenal for an undisclosed sum.
Due to the signing, Adebayor will leave his current French club Monaco for London to play for the Gunners, who are currently struggling to reach the top four of the English Premier League.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has also recruited other younger players to join his outfit as part of his plans to build up for the future, he said.
"What I wanted to add was someone with stature and power. But the priority for me was not experience. We have 10 players in our squad who went 49 games unbeaten," Wenger noted.
"Adebayor has qualities we do not have in the squad at the moment. He's tall and good in the air. He's a bit of a (Nwankwo) Kanu (of Nigeria) type but more going in behind defences.
"I feel it's down to us to turn it round and we're very close to it, but these signings will add a bit of belief. We will be in a position to challenge next season," he added.
