Accra, Ghana (PANA) - The golden trophy up for grabs in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany will go on public display Friday at the International Conference Centre here for Ghanaians to have a glimpse of the coveted award their national team would be chasing come June, FA officials said Thursday.
The World Cup arrived here Wednesday on board a Lufthansa Airliner on the first leg of a tour of African countries which qualified for the world's biggest football fiesta.
It will go on to Togo, Angola, Cote d'Ivoire and Tunisia, four other African countries that booked their tickets for Germany 2006.
The Cup arrived in the custody of Christopher James Sonntage, a 25-year- old German youth who cuddled it, as he was escorted by armed security personnel from the gangway into a bullion van on the tarmac.
The Cup will be sent to the presidency on Thursday for the perusal of the President and high government officials, before going on public view.
Coca Cola International and FIFA are financing the global tour of the Cup.
