  Nigeria names Egypt CAN team

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria has named a 23-member squad of mainly foreign-based players for the 25th African Nations Cup (CAN) championship in Egypt 20 January-10 February.

The only home-based player in the team is Dele Aiyenugba, a goalkeeper with the two-time African League Champions Enyimba of Aba, in south-eastern Nigeria.

Nigerian captain and English Bolton Wanderers' star Austin "Jay Jay" Okocha will lead the Super Eagles, including 18-year-old John Mike Obi, in the search of a third Nations Cup win after victories in 1980 and 1994.

Coach Austen Eguavoen released the list ahead CAF's deadline Wednesday.

The Super Eagles, who have been training at Faro, Portugal, ahead of the continental tournament will play their first match 23 January against West African archrivals Ghana in Port Said.

Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama, Dele Aiyegnuba, Austin Ejide.

Defenders: Taye Taiwo, Joseph Enakarhire, Obinna Nwaneri, Chidi Odiah, Joseph Yobo.

Midfielders: John Mikel Obi, Yusuf Ayila, Obafemi Martins, Wilson Oruma, Sani Kaita, Garba Lawal, Paul Obiefule, Christian Obodo, Austin Okocha, and,

Strikers: Nwankwo Kanu, Obinna Nsofor, John Utaka, Julius Aghahowa, Stephen Makinwa and Peter Odemwingie.
