Port Said, Egypt (PANA) - FC Palermo striker Ayo Makinwa is expected to pair with 'Super Eagles' top marksman Obafemi Martins in the crucial last Group D match against the 'Teranga Lions' of Senegal on Tuesday at the Port Said Stadium, a member of the Nigerian technical team revealed here Monday.
Makinwa will replace Julius Aghahowa, who also stars for Shakhtar Donestsk, in the starting line up to earn his first Nations Cup finals cap when the Nigerians meet the Senegalese in a crucial quest by the two countries for a quarterfinals ticket in the group.
The technical team official said the coaching crew had decided to field the attacking duo of Makinwa and Martins because the combination had worked in the past, especially in the two final 2006 World Cup/CAN qualifying matches against Algeria in Oran and at home to Zimbabwe.
"We want to improve with every match and what will happened in the Eagles' attack is one of the numerous changes that is expected as the tournament reaches the crucial stage," said the official, who requested anonymity.
