Ahead of the opening of the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations Sunday, the hosts Black Stars of Ghana have been forced to change their camping base, moving from the plush waterfront four star Labadi Beach Hotel to Fiesta Hotel due to disagreement over price with Labadi authorities.
The Ghana web reported that the Labadi Beach Hotel had reneged on an earlier agreement brokered between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the management of the hotel to accommodate the team at reduced rates for the Nations Cup, tagged Ghana 2008.
The report said with the arrival of scores of guests desirous of lodging at the beach facility, the management of the hotel went back on its word and demanded full payment for the stay of the Black Stars.
Angered by the decision, members of the GFA decided to move the team into another four star facility, the Fiesta Hotel at Jorwulu, a busy suburb of the capital, Accra.
Meanwhile, reports are rife that many hotels have raised their prices as the soccer invasion of Ghana gathers momentum, with dozens of fans arriving by the minute.
The hike is necessitated by the huge loans some of the tourism facilities operatives obtained to upgrade their businesses.
Owners are concerned that if they do not recoup enough money to offset their debts before the close of the tournament, they might run into difficulties paying back their loans.
