Organisers of the 26th MTN A frica Cup of Nations are promising a historic and memorable opening ceremony at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The 40-minute event put together by Ghanaian communicatins consultancy group, Global Media Alliance (GMA), would portray the rich cultural heritage of Ghana.
About 2,500 people made up of students, professors and lecturers from the University of Ghana, professional dance groups across the country, acrobats, cultural troops and children from primary schools would exhibit a blend of cultural and gymnastic display.
"The show would seek to tell and blend the unfolding story of culture in Ghana, the story of football and Ghana 2008," Chief Executive of Global Media Alliance, Edward Boateng said in a statement in Accra on Friday.
There would also e music from one of Ghana's best gospel groups, Daughters of Glorious Jesus.
Boateng said the GMA, in its effort to give the continent and the world a spectacular event, had assembled the best professional teams from Ghana, South Africa, US, Thailand and China to produce, engineer and choreograph the show. Among the professionals contracted for the show are Penny Jones, a renowned Stadium Theater Producer, Godwin Kotei, Ghana's leading mass display choreographer, Professor Nii Yartey, Africa's leading cultural choreographer and Kofi Ansah, Africa's leading and renowned fashion designer. Rex Brobbey, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), said the stadium would be closed to the public at 1430 GMT as part of security measures to make way for the opening ceremony at 1530 GMT.
