Nigeria Thursday named its final 23-member squad for the 26th Africa Cup of Nations, due to start in Ghana 20 January.
German coach Berti Vogts pruned the 31 players he invited to final training camp in Malaga, Spain, to 23, a day after the Nigerian Super Eagles beat Sudan 2-0 in a friendly at the camp site.
The team is dominated mostly by footballers playing professionally in Europe, including captain Nwankwo Kanu, who is expected to inspire the team to its third Nations Cup title.
Nigeria last won the continental soccer extravaganza in 1994, some 14 years after its first win.
The Super Eagles are grouped alongside Benin, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali in the first round of the competition, and will play their opening match against the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in Sekondi 21 January..
