Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, German Berti Vogts, has denied widespread reports that he may quit his job due to non-payment of his salary
"I do not understand where these reports are coming from, or why they are coming. I am concentrating on the training camp in Spain and I'm very happy with the way the players have responded,' the local football website 'Kickoffnigeria' quoted the 61-year-old coach as saying.
"We're all focusing on the African Cup. I have not spoken to anyone about unpaid salaries. It is not their business; it is mine. I have a good working relationship with my players and with the Nigeria federation and we're working together. Maybe some people feel that in the mood to celebrate Christmas, they can invent stories. It does not make sense,' added the coach, who was signed on last May.
At the weekend, the local press widely reported the quit story, quoting a German newspaper.
On Monday, the private Nation newspaper reported Vogts was being owed one-month (December) salary, amounting to US$50,000.
Vogts' salary is being paid by the Nigerian telecommunications company Globacom, under a sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).
Analysts have described the quit story as a terrible distraction for the Super Eagles, who are currently training in Malaga, Spain, for the 20 January-10 February African Nations Cup, to be hosted by Ghana.
