Alexandria, Egypt (PANA) - Guinea coach Patrice Neveu has said a change in strategy in the second half led to the 2-1 victory over Zambia in a crucial Group C match that saw the West Africans book a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (CAN).
"We changed our strategy in the second half, and the players' performance improved dramatically, that's why we won," Neveu told reporters at a post-match press conference here Thursday.
Guinea came from behind to defeat Zambia thanks to a brace by Pascal Feindouno. Elijah Tana scored Zambia's only goal.
The win puts Guinea at six points on the chart, having won their first match against South Africa in the group's opening tie.
"We will rest some of our star players in our match against Tunisia, but this doesn't mean that we'll underestimate our opponents, on the contrary, we will do our best to come out with a good result," Neveu added.
Also speaking at the news conference, Feindounou said coach Neveu's "fighting spirit" propelled them to victory, noting: "We showed poor form in the first half, but the coach asked us to switch to an aggressive approach, which lead us to victory".
