Nigeria Football Associationchairman Ibrahim Galadima told AFP here Sunday that the country will not stop Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins from playing for Cameroon.
The 19-year-old has so far refused to play for his native country, saying he is not yet ready but has reportedly been called up by Cameroon in their 40-man squad for a 2004 Olympic qualifier against Ivory Coast later this month.
"If Martins has decided to play for Cameroon, good luck to him," said Galadima.
"It is his personal decision and we cannot stop him from doing what he so wishes. We, on our part, insist that there won't be any regrets from his decision."
Cameroon FA boss Iya Mohamed refused to deny or confirm Martins' invitation to the Olympic squad.
Martins has been called up by Nigeria for Olympic and senior international games in the past including the on-going African Nations Cup in Tunisia but he has preferred to stay put at his Italian club.
