English Premiership side Bolton Wanderers are confident they will welcome Nigerian skipper Jay Jay Okocha back from the African Nations Cup with a new deal to keep him at the club.
Chairman Phil Gartside said Friday that preliminary talks with Okocha have already been held and that he is sure he can satisfy the player's demands for a three-year agreement to replace his current deal, which expires at the end of the season.
Okocha could be back in Britain early next week if Nigeria lose their African Nations Cup quarter-final to Cameroon on Sunday but Bolton are believed to be facing competition from Lancashire neighbours Blackburn to sign him.
"We know financially what Jay Jay is looking for and we are trying to work out a package where we feel a compromise can settle the situation," said Gartside.
"We are confident he'll stay. He wants to stay, his family are settled and he's enjoying his football. We've had success and he's on the biggest stage you can be on.
"I can't envisage him going anywhere other than maybe the top three clubs in the country to play his football and get a better situation.
"Financially we pay Jay-Jay the market rate."
