Titi Camara faces the ghosts of his bitter experience of the English Premiership on Saturday when his Guinea team take on Mali for a place in the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup.
Lining up against him at the Mensah Stadium here will be Frederic Kanoute, a former teammate during his nightmare three years at West Ham.
While Camara spent most of his career at Upton Park either on the bench, in the reserves or on the treatment table recovering from a knee injury, Kanoute was flying on the pitch.
Kanoute's form at Upton Park earned him a 3.5-million-pound (6.3 million dollar) move to Tottenham last summer, while Camara went off to the backwaters of the Qatar league to lick his wounds.
"I think Harry Redknapp (West Ham manager at the time) expected a lot of me, but I signed for three years and I wanted do everything to show the public that I was a good choice," said Camara who moved to West Ham from Liverpool for 1.5 million pounds in December 2000.
He had been a popular player at Anfield scoring 10 goals in 37 games but never managed to dislodge Michael Owen and Emile Heskey from their first team berths.
"Perhaps the supporters were expecting a lot from myself but it's true that it wasn't easy to quit a club like Liverpool and adapt to life in London, and the way of playing.
"It was a new system, new players, and it obviously wasn't working - you need time.
"Some players take longer than others, and I thought it would be easy when I went to West Ham."
Camara never settled and played just 14 games for the Hammers never managing to find the back of the net.
However, scoring at the African Nations Cup has not been a problem. Camara and Kanoute have three goals each and will be key men on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Kanoute, who was rested for the final group match against Senegal last Monday, prefers to see the spotlight on the teams and not individual battles.
"All of our performances so far have shown that we are a good team," said Kanoute.
"We have finished top of the group and now we face Guinea. They have some good players but we have great confidence at the moment."
