Nigerian president assures Okocha on trapped funds

Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo has promised to assist captain of the national team Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha to recover his one million dollars trapped in a troubled local bank.
"I have instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria to pay Okocha his money trapped in the distressed bank as soon as they sort out the problem with the bank," Obasanjo said during a monthly radio programme at the weekend.
He said the recovery of the money would help restore the confidence of Nigerians based abroad and foreign investors in the country's economy.
"I canvassed for them to come home and invest their money. I must make sure that the money they brought home is secured," Obasanjo said.
Last week, the Bolton Wanderers star at a press conference in Tunisia, pleaded with Obasanjo to help him recover his money.
"The president has been calling Nigeria to come home and invest and I heeded this call. It will therefore be unfortunate if people like me who have invested in the country now have our fingers burnt and cannot recover our investment," Okocha said.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo has congratulated the Super Eagles for beating old rivals Cameroon 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Nations Cup.
He urged the Eagles to consolidate the quarter-finals victory by not only defeating hosts Tunisia in Wednesday's semi-finals, but by also winning cup for the third time for Nigeria.
