In addition to their familiarity with the Stadium here and the city itself, Nigeria's Super will also enjoy maximum "home" support when they take on the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the crucial quarterfinal match of the Africa Cup of Nations here Saturday.
At local pubs, drums of support for the Super Eagles always rent the air, an indication that a partisan crowd will be behind Coach Austin Eguavoen and his boys on Saturday.
Soccer pundits say it is more out of rivalry than anything else that Egyptian fans are rooting for Nigeria against a fellow Arab nation.
"We want Nigerians to roast Tunisia for us. They are too arrogant and if we support Nigeria against them, the better for the competition," charged Hakeem Ahmed, a taxi driver.
Nigeria played and won all its three Group D matches here.
"We really appreciate the advantage we have and we are working hard to make use of it," declared Aderenle Yusuf, Chairman of the Nigerian Football Supporters' Club. "Members of the club have been mobilising support ahead of the Nigeria-Tunisia match and we are calling on all Egyptians to come in their thousands to cheer the Super Eagles to victory in our Green-White-Green colours."
