Each member of Nigeria's Super Eagles will get 7,500 dollars in bonus if the team beats the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in Saturday's quarterfinal match in the ongoing African Nations Cup tournament.
Already the players have each reaped $15,000 in bonus money for the three victories in the group stage at a rate of $5,000 per match. Winning bonuses increase at every stage of the competition.
"The Sports Ministry has so far kept its promise to the players and this explains why there has not been any form of agitation from any quarter.
We hope this standard will continue," an official of the team, who requested anonymity, told PANA here Thursday.
The official explained that an agreement had been reached between the Sports Ministry and the players on bonuses covering wins and draws during the squad's training camp in Faro, Portugal ahead of the competition.
But a source close to the team revealed that the players were paid for their wins over Zimbabwe and Senegal Wednesday night, contrary to the arrangement for immediate payment after matches, due to inadequate funds which has left the Nigerian FA interim secretary-general Fanny Amun shuttling between Port Said and Cairo, the Egyptian capital.
